The number of Black farmers in our country has decreased from 14 percent in 1920 to 1.4 percent today. We need deep, systemic changes to our food and farm system to stop this land loss and get more farmers of color back into the farm business. The Justice for Black Farmers act has been reintroduced into the senate to fight this problem.
The JBFA addresses longstanding discrimination against Black farmers, protects remaining Black farmers from losing their land, provides land grants to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to create a new generation of Black farmers, and funds new and existing programs to help family farmers across the United States.
Tell your Congress member to support the Justice for Black Farmers Act as part of the food and farm bill.
